This is an honest question: which serious things?

My boss recently added a custom integration to allow us to log hours on jobs. It includes GPS coordinates so we have proof of our whereabouts.

I’m in my mid 40s, and I constantly thinking about https://xkcd.com/605/ and trying to extrapolate what shape I’ll be in when I get ”old” based on the decline of the last ten years.

The projections are not looking good…


I'm in the same boat. Looking around here, the older guys in the best shape that I know of are in the local triathlon club. Pushing 50s, 60s, and even 70s, and they are still very fit and can also party harder than I can.

I love cycling, and a run can be refreshing, but I don't really have any desire to swim - much less an open water swim. But triathlons seem to be a pretty effective path to longevity, so it may be something I need to force myself to take up. That and weight training.

I’m in Stockholm, and our condo HOA (BRF) includes 1Gbps per unit in the fee for all units because billing individually would cost more in admin than the service itself. We have FTTP and then cat6 to each unit.


In Copenhagen mine is billed individually, and is 75kr for 1Gb/s. About $10.

That sounds really convenient! Is it a new building? I know the odd American or Canadian build will have that, but only the newer and more expensive ones.


The building is from the 1940s.

But this is a pretty common setup for condos in Swedish cities. Rentals usually have access to the same infrastructure but at higher prices due to kickbacks demanded by the landlords from the ISPs.

The backbone of it all is a state owned fiber connecting the cities together with municipal fiber.

But even outside of the cities FTTP is quite common. There are companies which specialize in finding rural areas where there’s enough interest to justify the cost of connecting them and then coordinating getting an economic association setup to own and manage the local infrastructure.


I had that in Sweden 20 years ago. Typically our local municipality put fiber whenever they dug up anything, so fiber is everywhere.


This is something to underscore, US people always talks about how "big and sprawling" the US is, but there's fiber at my fathers house in Northern Sweden that's in an area with similar population density to Wisconsin or whatever rural US state you want to pick.

Some kind of city(iirc) managed fiber and he can switch commercial operators (And speeds/prices) by contacting them to get new terms, that's an actually free market.

As someone completely out of the loop - which countries block WireGuard packets en masse?

I knew this was the case, but I did a couple of stopovers in China earlier this year when flying to/from Japan, and using Tailscale to connect through my local homelab worked perfectly.


All mobile roaming traffic is tunneled through your home country. The host network simply forwards everything to and from your provider at home.


Which is also why you get Google results in your own language, even if you're in Japan. Google receive your requests from an IP address in your own country.


That's only if you're using roaming on your home provider which I doubt many people are. Most people visiting China are either one WiFi (thus are inside the Chinese firewall) or are using a travel (e)sim which usually routes packets through one of the neighbouring countries/regions. Last time I was there Tailscale with my exit node terminating at a residential British IP address worked fine on both but discovering relay nodes on WiFi didn't work so I had to switch to data.


Wireguard was completely broken for me in Dubai but Tailscale worked.


I believe that the goal is mainly to protect the data of stolen laptops.
