Unfortunately Chess (unlike Go) doesn't have a good handicap system. When playing without a piece (or two) it is not chess anymore OR it doesn't really matter.. During how many games does Queen's rook come into play during early middle game?
Go, on the other hand has a nice handicap system (which doesn't change the nature of the game too much). One can have a fighting chance against a much stronger player with enough handicap (Upto 9 stones). In Chess terms, an IM can have a _decent_ game against a GM. Probably lose. But the GM has to work for it.
the rook is fairly useless early game (which is why rook and knight odds are surprisingly close), but the queen actually does a lot in the early midgame (just mostly not by moving). The queen is usually keeping a bunch of squares indirectly defended, the trick is that the queen starts in a pretty good position and is much more mobile, so its importance doesn't come from where it is, but where it could be in 2 movies
Borland was huuuge. The name was so prominent, my college-mate one day (without a hint of irony) said: "All this time I thought the first name of Pascal - the mathematician, was Borland and that's how the company got the name. I just learned I was wrong, it's Blaise..."
When Hejlsberg left Borland to work at Microsoft and then made C# and .NET, etc., I followed like a blind, newborn kitten. And then I spent years drinking that kool-aid. I regret this decision to this day. What a waste of my youth.
You don't get the option in the UI: there's just "Sleep", which on a desktop Mac seems to suspend to RAM only. At least, it seems to on mine, as I found out when I unplugged it.
(Apparently the laptops do a suspend to disk depending on battery remaining, so the OS does support it. It'd be nice to have it available! The disk space required could become annoying if you only bought the 1 TB SSD for your fancy 512 GB Mac though.)
This predates the 'Apps' by a good margin. Safeway used to do this a decade (or more?) ago. All the prices in shelves are artificially jacked up. Only if you use their 'card' you got real prices at checkout.
I refused to get their card and stopped shopping there.
I would love a pair of ordinary looking glasses that work just as displays. I go for long walks (for health reasons) and it would be really good to watch youtube videos or shows that gets projected in front of my face, but still keep overall vision outside.
I definetely don't want a camera in there.
Not sure if such a beast exists. But due to Meta/Google screwing up with cameras, I may never get my display glasses.
XREAL, RayNeo and there is at least one more brand that exists. You could use those for that already - though they're probably not perfect yet for that specific use case.
But they will come and will get better. Apple is also supposedly still working on some and they'll likely try to get rid of the "camera issue". Or maybe they'll try to make it the new normal. But they already exist and there will be more of them in the future - with and without cameras.
I love my Xreals. They don't even have a camera for tracking as they're the first generation.
Unfortunately due to meta's perv glasses they are getting a bad name too, it happens when I'm using them that people think I'm recording them. They are more bulky and clearly tech glasses, and many people understandably don't know the difference. They're more noticeable than meta's glasses.
I had that last time on the plane. It's really annoying because they have no camera nor microphone. They're great displays and can even do 3D. But meta is ruining that for us now too.
And also two of them are in the same spot as Meta's so it will be really hard for a layman to distinguish them.
Personally I don't really like the tracking because it means I have to point my face in a very specific spot to see the whole screen. Or I have to make it smaller and lose resolution. I like the way it stays locked to my vision with the cheaper ones, and the price of 200 euro makes it great to just carry around without worring too much (even though that's still a lot of money for me). I wouldn't pay 600-800 for something like this.
I just installed it and loving it so far.
