I think it's very common - its just what a 'normie' is depends on your particular poison... it seems to have been incorporated in a lot of hobbies/niches to refer to anyone not deep in the niche ?

If they have any problems in life, it is that they have too much time on their hands already. An AI agent that automates tasks so they have more free time is exactly what they would not want.
What they really want is something worth spending their time on. That is what everyone pretty much wants but instead we get this bullshit.

The evolutionary mistake that allowed us to walk on our feet and use our hands enabled us to build tools, conquer our environment and tackle hard problems. A humanoid robot provides a good blueprint for creating a robot that can do anything.
A solar field robot can only do one thing. A humanoid robot with a software model that allows it to install solar fields and then switch to a new model is a much more compelling use case. Eventually you're going to run out of solar fields to install, then you need a solar field repair bot, a solar field cleaning bot, etc. General purpose robots that can switch models to perform different tasks is not a dead end, but definitely a very hard problem.
Recent work in this space has got me looking at using local models for daily use. I’m waiting for people to start dumping some of the previous generation minis on Facebook marketplace or eBay so I can pick one up. Of course there’s also other options. I’m still hammering out my requirements and what I want to do besides putz around.
Two of those links were Macs. No surprise. Macbooks selling like hotcakes due to AI. Not just local LLMs but also just really efficient *nix machines that AI agents love to use for productivity.
