I miss the pre-https-by-default days where I could see what search terms people used to land on my blog. Gave excellent topic ideas for unmet needs.

That's not about HTTPS, unless you were intercepting their traffic to Google. That's about referer, and Google blocking referer because it gave away a competitive advantage.

Yeah, that was an oddly useful little feedback loop. You'd see some bizarrely specific query bringing people in and realize there was an entire question people were asking that you'd never thought to write about.

I thought most would use their “shark fin” on the roof for everything (if there is one but there usually is). Terminating on the other end somewhere with a color coded FAKRA connector.

That's quite far away for the weak GPS signal over RF cable, but they still do it. Or maybe the GPS unit and LTE modem are also in the shark fin or nearby and they use a serial, CAN FD/XL or single pair ethernet connection to it? Another choice is in the center of the dashboard under the winshield or under the mirror.

I later in life learned that the “test cards - all channels” ads I saw in the back of the library’s Popular Science in the 90s probably weren’t scams.

> These scammers usually do IP address checks to check for residential IP before showing the scam, and some also do some basic fingerprinting checks, so that is how they get past detection.

Same issue with spam sms in my country: I think they geo-locate it so submitting the link to safe browsing project takes way too long

It's more than that. The 10% is the scam ads that "won" the ad auctions. It doesn't include the effect of scam ads bidding up the market and increasing the price of non-scam ad wins.

(Could also argue that the scam ad that won the slot for 10 cents would have gone for 9 cents without the scam and Meta's marginal revenue was only 1 cent... but if every ad is 1 cent more...)

Same problem when you want to buy a home in a place where real estate became a means for money laundering or uninhabited store of value

They're probably taking that into account in their 10% of profit coming from ads estimate.

I'm partial to this complaint generator, on the internet since 1994 and semi-regularly updated since: https://www.pakin.org/complaint

here's a 1 paragraph complaint about Dang (which will be different on every load): https://www.pakin.org/complaint?title=&firstname=Dang&middle...

Amazing, 100% real human complaint according to a state of the art* AI detection method!

*: Ranked 2 on the google proxy I used, as the best SEO optimister just refused to return a result at all.

I remember doing an account closure at a legacy bank and the paperwork said they'd "disperse" my money instead of disburse it...

Same but for a flexible thin-wall a/c refrigerant line :(

obviously this isn't official advice, but are they misinformed and don't like you doing legal things that bother them?

> Any small pleasure vessel leaving a United States port into international or foreign waters, without a call at a foreign port, does not satisfy the foreign departure requirement. Therefore, certain fishing vessels, cruises to nowhere, or any vessel that leaves from a United States port and returns without calling a foreign port or place, has not departed the United States.

Dunno how much emphasis to put on the word "port"

While it's a more inland water, Large vessels effectively can't transit through Windows/Detroit shipping channel without multiple border line crossings: https://i0.wp.com/niche-canada.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/1...

This is generally law enforcement all over. Given the power imbalance people don't question it due to fear of arrest/violence.
